Abstract:

This paper gives descriptions and optical diagrams of optical test systems as an example for studying the properties of individual third-order aberrations, along with formulas that connect the image-quality criteria of single mirrors and two-lens components with the focal length, the f number, and the wavelength of light. A linear connection is established between the coefficients of the equations of the mirror surface and the corresponding orders of spherical aberration.
