This paper describes the principles of the operation and design of a fiber-optic threshold temperature sensor that is insensitive to the influence of strong electric and magnetic fields and is intended for use in the test-and-measurement apparatus of electric-power systems. The operation of the sensor is based on the change of the light scattering of organic materials close to the liquid–solid phase-transition temperature. The results of calculations of the optical transmission and the experimental development of the sensor are presented.
