This paper presents the derivation of a formula for atmospheric transmittance on an oblique track as a function of the length of the oblique track, the vertical profile of the aerosol scattering coefficients, the atmospheric transparency (meteorological visibility range), and the wavelength of the laser radiation. The formula was used in calculating the radiation energy density in the plane of a laser rangefinder’s entrance pupil (the radiation had a working wavelength of 1.06 μm), mounted on the surface of a moving vehicle at a flight height of at least 5 km.
