Abstract:

Possible mechanisms of contingent color aftereffects, in particular, the McCollough effect, are discussed. A hypothesis is proposed, which assumes that the McCollough effect occurs when color constancy mechanisms are activated. Experimental evidence of similarities between the mechanisms of perception constancy and mechanisms of formation of a psychological attitude in terms of the Uznadze theory is demonstrated. Actual activity indicators of recalibration mechanisms of sensory systems are presented using experimentally induced changes in color sensitivity as an example.
