This article shows that it is expedient to use optical coherent tomography (OCT) in endoscopic studies by means of video endoscopic complexes to diagnose the early stages of cancer of the gastrointestinal tract. The principle of OCT is described, and a theoretical basis is provided for signal-conversion processes in the light-source-patient-photodetector system, confirming the efficacy of the OCT method. A description is given of experimental samples of a video endoscopic complex that use the OCT method, their operating principles, and the results obtained when they are used in medical practice.
