This paper discusses the representation of images as composites of contour, gradient and finish components, as well as the features of the perception of these components by the human visual system. Image-processing and compression principles based on the use of such a representation are formulated. Experimental results are presented that show that processing methods that use this approach provide better results than traditional methods.
