Abstract:

This paper presents the results of experimental studies of the lifetime characteristics of exciplex lamps that contain molecular chlorine as a component of the gas mixture. It is established that the temperature of the quartz wall of the envelope has a substantial effect on the degradation of the working mix and that the wall rapidly loses transmittance in the UV at temperatures above 100°C. It is shown that the service life of excilamps is at least 3000h when a buffer volume is used in the envelope and when working mixtures are used in which the halogen concentration was higher than for the optimum emission of the working mix at medium power.
