Abstract:

This paper discusses the modal composition of radiation propagating along microstructured waveguides with a core displaced relative to the center of the lightguide by the size of a step of the structure. It is shown that the single-mode regime of the lightguide is achieved at the same geometrical parameters of the structured cladding as in a lightguide with a central core. The mode spot in lightguides with a displaced core is less than the analogous parameter in lightguides having their core at the center for identical core size. For that reason, the stability of the principal mode against bending of the lightguide when light propagates along a displaced core is greater than in a lightguide with a central core.
