Abstract:

This paper presents the results of studies of how broad-band terahertz radiation of the range 0.1-2THz affects individual biological systems. Samples of biological tissue have different extinction coefficients, which differ in healthy and pathological tissues. The transmittance of tissue samples for pulsed terahertz radiation depends on their thickness. The best transmittance is possessed by hard dental tissue, the walls of the blood vessels, and fatty tissues. It is shown that terahertz radiation passes through several layers of gauze, can detect the presence of early caries in dental enamel, and differentiates it from regions with low mineralization.
