Abstract:

This article is devoted to the development and study of a method of calibrating an active stereoscopic system that consists of a monocular camera and a source of structured illumination in the form of a line. The chief feature of the proposed method is to use a standard checkerboard calibration pattern as the only basic equipment needed for calibration. The proposed calibration method has been experimentally studied on actual data in order to compute the distance to objects observed by the camera and illuminated by a projector. The experimental results, along with theoretical calculations, confirm that the proposed calibration method can be used for 3D modeling systems and for determining the distance to surrounding objects.
