Abstract:

This paper establishes that, when a thin layer of polyparaphenylene is deposited by thermal evaporation in vacuum on a close-packed monolayer of silver nanoparticles, there is a long-wavelength shift of the maximum of the surface plasmon absorption band of the metallic nanoparticles. It is shown that, along with the main mechanism of this shift, determined by dynamic Coulomb screening, an additional mechanism may also exist, caused by the interaction of the valence electrons of silver with the π-electrons of polyparaphenylene.
