The action of UV radiation on polymeric materials that contain the precursors of gold and hybrid organic–inorganic materials based on titanium oxide has been studied. It is shown that the changes of the absorption spectrum in the visible range are accompanied by a significant change of their linear and nonlinear optical properties in the IR region. The method of spectrally resolved two-wave mixing of femtosecond laser pulses was used to determine the rapid electronic cubic optical susceptibility in the IR part of the spectrum. The values found for the nonlinear refractive index exceed the value for quartz by a factor of 100–300. The change of the linear refractive index is determined from the diffraction efficiency of thin diffraction gratings formed under the action of UV to be at the 10−4–10−5 level.
