This paper presents the statistical results of studies of the spectral characteristics of tree plantings in the city of Samara. Differential backscattering was used as the main method of monitoring the optical characteristics of the vegetation. All the studies were carried out at the same time of day for five months of growth of green birch leaves, from May through October. The concentration of the main pigments in the leaves of the tree plantings was also monitored during the study by means of fluorescence analysis and the Braginskiĭ biochemical method. It was experimentally shown that there is a correlation of the biochemical analysis data of the plants with the data obtained by optical methods, and this confirms that differential backscattering can be used to identify regions of the city according to ecological significance.
