Abstract:

The optical properties of composite structures based on anisotropic fibers with axisymmetric packing have been modelled. It is shown that the conoscopic patterns that appear when such structures are observed with crossed polarizers are very similar to the classical conoscopic figures that are observed for bulk uniaxial crystals. However, in the case considered here, the character of the pattern depends on a large number of parameters of the composite system and, in particular, depends on the features of the packing of the anisotropic fibers in the bundle.
