Abstract:

This paper discusses the theoretical dependence of the absorption coefficient of single-crystal germanium, used as an optical medium in the IR region, on its resistivity. It is shown that this dependence is described by a monotonic curve, and, to obtain reliable values of the transmittance of germanium samples, it is necessary, besides the resistivity, to determine the motion of the charge carriers. The variations of the absorption coefficient and the resistivity in the temperature interval 210-330 K are considered. The results of the calculations are compared with experimental data obtained on GMO and GÉS-type germanium samples.
