Abstract:

This paper is devoted to the history of the development of a number of devices for investigating the x-radiation of the sun, fabricated at S. I. Vavilov State Optical Institute and making it possible to set about creating modern spacecraft for monitoring ionizing solar radiation (with wavelengths shorter than 150nm). Results are presented for radiation fluxes of both the quiet sun and of the sun in the period of powerful solar flares, measured from artificial earth satellites (1957-1971). The subsequent evolution of this work with the purpose of creating special apparatus--a permanent Space Solar Patrol--is considered.
