A new and original method is proposed for the laser processing of cactuses of the family that includes Opuntia ficus-indica (nopal), used for the production of food products in the food industry. This article describes the results of experiments on the removal of the prickles and spines from the surface of cactuses using pulsed laser ablation, and the problems of developing a commercial technology based on this method are discussed.
