This paper describes the construction principles of transmissometers and nephelometers and discusses their advantages and disadvantages. A measurement of the visibility range of the NIF-1, which uses the advantages of transmissometric and nephelometric measurement principles, is presented. The features of the construction of the optical and electric systems of the device are discussed. Practical results are presented.
