Abstract:

This letter discusses the design of diffraction structures for the conversion and focusing of the plasmon modes (PMs) of a metal/dielectric interface and thin metal films. The calculation is based on the phase modulation of the PMs that accompanies transmission through a dielectric structure located immediately on the surface where the PMs propagate. Based on electromagnetic modelling, it is shown that the PMs can be phase-modulated by varying the height or length of the structure, as well as by simultaneously varying both parameters. As an example, we consider a trifocal lens for the focusing of PMs.
