Subject of study. A tunable fiber-optic filter based on a fiber Bragg grating, in which the resonance wavelength is controlled by heating with laser radiation without external control elements. Aim of study. To develop and investigate a fiber-optic filter with wavelength tuning of the Bragg resonance in a fully fiber-integrated design. Method. The operation of the filter is based on tuning the resonance wavelength of the fiber Bragg grating by local laser radiation heating using a light-extracting element. Heating due to absorption of optical radiation causes thermal expansion of the optical fiber material and a change in its refractive index, which leads to a shift in the wavelength. Main results. A tunable spectral filter in a fully fiber-integrated design based on a Bragg grating was demonstrated, with the resonance wavelength tunable by more than 6 nm through heating of the diffractive structure by optical radiation emitted from an optical fiber with modified geometry. Two samples with offset splice misalignments of 10 and 30 µm and one sample using a biconical taper were experimentally investigated. Practical significance. A simple and technologically efficient tunable filter design was proposed, which can be used for integration into fiber-optic systems where the absence of electrical elements is important.
