Subject of study. Test benches’ error for measuring the modulation transfer function. Aim of study. Development, validation and verification of calculation method for modern test benches’ total error for measuring the modulation transfer function. Method. Theoretical and experimental methods of error contributors’ determination. Main results. Test benches for measuring the modulation transfer function error classification is presented. Systematic and random errors are described. Validation and verification of absolute error calculation method are made for test benches in spectral band of 8–14 µm and partially for spectral band of 0.4–1.0 µm. Additional requirements for test benches are proposed in order to provide modulation transfer function systematic error of 0.02 rel. un. and random error of 0.01 rel. un. for single-element and multielement radiation detectors. Practical significance. Proposed modulation transfer function absolute error calculation method can be used for test benches development or for analysis of already manufactured ones in spectral bands of 0.25–14 µm.
