This paper presents data on the development of microstructured lightguides based on quartz glass with a large core for transporting powerful light fluxes. The lightguide structure is obtained by replacing seven or nineteen central openings in a hexagonal assembly with one rod that forms the core of the lightguide. Radiation can propagate along the large core (up to 35μm in diameter) in the single-more regime, caused by strong damping of the upper mode. The conditions for the existence of a single mode are determined, in particular, by the degree of air content in the light-reflecting cladding.
